Amazon initially started as an online bookstore, and in sticking to their roots they were one of the first companies to penetrate the e-reader market with the Kindle. While it may feel like the Kindle is a relatively newer product, Amazon debuted the original Kindle back in November, 2007, for a whopping $399! Since then, Amazon has continued to innovate and develop a suite of Kindle tablets and e-readers to meet the needs of various consumers. Here is a rundown of Amazon’s new 2022 Kindle tablets.
Update! The most stunning Kindle Tablet ever made—will blow you away.
This simplest e-reader Amazon offers is the original line of 10th generation Kindles, with a list price of $89.99 but currently available for $59.99, representing a significant 33% discount. Despite the low price, the basic Kindle still features some pretty nice specs, including a 6-inch glare-free screen, 4GB of storage, a 167 ppi resolution, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a battery capable of delivering up to a 4-week charge when the wireless option is turned off. For those looking to dip their toes into e-readers, the 10th generation Kindle offers a great low-cost solution.
The Kindle Paperwhite is the mid-level option available in the suite of Amazon’s e-readers. Now in its 4th generation, the Kindle Paperwhite is priced at $129.99. Like the 10th generation Kindle, the Paperwhite also has a 6-inch glare-free screen, up to 4-week battery life, and Wi-Fi connectivity, but the similarities end there. The Kindle Paperwhite has two storage options: 8GB or 32GB. It also features a flush-front design with a 300 ppi resolution display that reads like real paper. One of the cooler features of the Kindle Paperwhite is its waterproof design, so getting splashed by the pool or along the beach is no longer a concern. According to Wired, “The $130 Paperwhite is the best selling Kindle ever”.
The Kindle Oasis is the deluxe model within the Kindle suite of products, and delivers a premium reading experience for $249.99. It has everything a Kindle Paperwhite has, in addition to some other nice features. The most noticeable features on the Oasis are the 7-inch screen and the ergonomic hand grip that feels great to hold. The Oasis also features auto-adjusting light sensors, automatic page rotation, and page turn buttons. Despite all the extras, Amazon was still able to make the Oasis their lightest Kindle model to date.
Amazon Fire Tablet
Since 2011 Amazon has produced a line of tablets that differ from e-readers in that they can do a whole lot more. Amazon’s most basic tablet, the Fire 7, is priced at $49.99 and is a fantastic foray into the tablet space. The Fire 7 has a 7-inch display, offers either 16 or 32 GB of storage, has hands-free Alexa features, and is twice as durable as the iPad Mini. Unlike the suite of Kindle products, the Fire Tables are designed for broader entertainment options, so in addition to reading books, Fire tablets enable users to watch movies, play games, and listen to music. The additional entertainment features do come at a cost to battery life, with the Fire 7 having a battery life of up to 7 hours.
If you’re on a tight budget and you only want a device for reading, you should opt for the 2022. But in the end, the right Kindle or Fire product depends on your needs. The greatest thing about the products listed above is the wide range of features to fit every need without having to break the bank.
